Manuscript D.S. 2pp. legal folio, St. Genevieve, MO, Feb. 22, 1833, in which Felix Janis ‘…now the legal owner and in the actual possession of a certain negro, or rather yellow woman named Clarissa aged between forty and forty five years as a slave for life, and also of a certain Mulatto boy named John a child of the said Clarissa aged about six years, and being desirous and intending to emancipate and set free the said…Clarissa…and her child John now my slaves…be known to all whom it may concern…I the said Felix Janis…in consideration of the sum of one dollar lawful money…to me in hand paid by the said Clarissa for herself and on behalf of the said John her child…herewith to be…discharged, exonerated, emancipated and forever set free…'.
