This pair of solid sterling silver forks is in the Louis XV pattern, produced by the Whiting Manufacturing Company. The pattern was patented in 1891, as indicated by the marks on the reverse. The design follows the Rococo Revival style, featuring ornate asymmetrical scrolls, foliate elements, and a shell-shaped terminal. On the reverse of each handle is the Whiting Manufacturing Company maker mark depicting a griffin with its paw on a shield containing a W, followed by the text STERLING and PAT. 1891. One fork shows additional, partially legible marks on the side of the shank, likely a retailer mark. The front of the handle's features script monograms, with one reading MR and the other ES. Total weight 118g.
