Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975)

I Got a Gal on Sourwood Mountain

1938

The lithograph published by Associated American Artists in an edition of 250 prints is signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right and listed as Fath catalog number 19. This print is in poor condition. Benton's comments in Fath read: From a tempera painting made in 1937 - now owned by Hymen Cohen, layer of N.Y. City. A color reproduction was made of this picture in England sometime in the middle '30s for The International Studio, a magazine they published in London. This is another of the song and people who sing it - or, in this case, dance it. Mr. Cohen has died and the picture resold. I don't know who owns it now.

Image measures 12.5 x 9, sheet is 16 x 12, and frame is 23 x 18 inches.
