  • Provenance: ARTIST PROFILE: George W. Drew (1875–1968) was an American painter best known for his quiet, light-filled landscapes of the New England countryside. Born on December 21, 1875, in Massachusetts, he studied under John Califano, known for his exhibitions in Rome, and the well-known American artist Henry Pember Smith. Drew traveled and painted together with Smith throughout New England, especially Connecticut, and in Italy. He was a member of the Independent Artists Association and exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Allied Artists of America, the Salons of America, and various state fairs and museums, including the Newark Museum and the New York Museum of Science and Industry. Drew favored rustic scenes of farmhouses, meadows, and tree-lined ponds, often bathed in the warm, glowing light characteristic of the Hudson River School tradition. Though little is documented about his personal life, his paintings appear on the art market quite often and have always been well received, reflected in the numerous exhibitions he participated in throughout his career.
  • Dimensions: 5.25 x 3.5 inches; frame: 10.25 x 8.5 inches
