Lorraine Waatsa (Zuni Pueblo) is a contemporary jewelry artist known for her finely executed petit point and clusterwork jewelry. Working within a distinguished lineage of Zuni jewelers, Waatsa continues a family tradition of lapidary and silversmithing that spans multiple generations.
Born into one of Zuni Pueblo's prominent jewelry-making families, Waatsa is the daughter of acclaimed jewelers Alice and Duane Quam and the granddaughter of Doris and Wayne Ondelacy, whose clusterwork jewelry helped define mid-twentieth-century Zuni craftsmanship. She learned the fundamentals of jewelry making from her parents and created her first piece in 1971 while still living at home. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to the traditional techniques and aesthetics associated with Zuni jewelry.
Waatsa is particularly recognized for her skill in stone cutting and lapidary work, carefully shaping and setting turquoise, coral, lapis, and other natural materials into intricate petit point and clusterwork designs. Her jewelry is characterized by precise stonework, balanced compositions, and a strong adherence to traditional Zuni forms.
  • Condition: Each overall good condition with light tarnishing and scratches commensurate with age and use. Scattered stones with light abrasions and surface reaching fractures. Each tests for sterling with XRF.

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request.
