Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack (German 1893-1965) Color Woodcut "Village Scene" c1920s. Signed. Excellent condition. 8.5"h x 12.5"w. Frame 12.25"h x 16.25"w

A fine example of early 20th-century German graphic art, this color woodcut (likely a linocut) showcases the signature style of Bauhaus pioneer Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack. The composition features a stylized, pastoral landscape with a strong emphasis on line and texture, characteristic of the artist’s work during his time in Germany.

The piece is distinguished by a prominent "LMW" monogram (Ludwig Mack Weimar) within the block, signifying its origin during his influential Weimar years.

Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack was a central figure at the Bauhaus, studying under masters like Lyonel Feininger and Paul Klee. He is globally recognized for his "Farbenlichtspiele" (color-light plays) and his contributions to color theory. After the Bauhaus closed, he emigrated to England and eventually Australia, where he became a foundational figure in modern art education. His works are held in major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the National Gallery of Victoria.
