    Note:
    Ernest Lawson first met R.A. Holland at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, where Lawson was awarded a silver medal and Holland served as superintendent of the art exhibition. Their professional relationship continued over the following decades. After becoming director of the City Art Museum in 1911, Holland was appointed director of the Kansas City Art Institute in late 1924. He subsequently offered Lawson a teaching position at the Institute, where Lawson taught for one year. In 1927, Lawson joined the faculty of the Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado Springs. The following year, at Holland’s request, he returned to the Kansas City Art Institute to assume the classes of Anthony Angarola following Angarola’s death.
  • Condition: Framed: 17 3/4 x 16 3/4 x 1 1/2 in.
    Minor deposits of surface dirt and dust. Craquelure throughout, which appear in stable condition. Loss to paint at lower left near edge of figure's dress. No apparent issues under UV. Additional images available upon request.
