Post-World War I Commercial Production Mauser Obendorf Gew. 98 "Wehrmannsgewehr" Bolt Action Target Rifle Built off of a WWI era military Gew. 98 receiver, arsenal reworked after World War I to be in compliance with the Treaty of Versailles. These rifles are often referred to as "Wehrmannsgewehr" or "serviceman's rifles," intended for civilian or paramilitary target practice chambered for the commercial 8.15x46 mm R cartridge instead of the military 7.92x57 mm cartridge which was restricted after World War I, and were mostly manufactured in single-shot only configuration without an internal magazine, spring, and follower installed. This example has a non-standard blade front sight dovetailed to the front sight base, a non-standard adjustable notch rear sight fitted to the standard rear sight base (stars stamped at "8" and "10" graduations), a "N" marked on top of the barrel, the three-line Mauser markings and the date "1915" on top of the receiver ring, along with "crown/B" and "crown/U" proofs on the receiver and bolt. Matching visible full "409" serial numbers on the receiver, barrel, and bolt, along with visible matching partial "09" serial numbers on the safety and bolt release latch. Fitted with a smooth walnut handguard and semi-pistol grip stock.
