R. B. Burt Signed, Documented Legendary American Entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. Factory Inscribed, and Nickel Plated Colt Second Generation Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter and R. L. Wilson Note Manufactured in 1970, the included factory letter confirms this revolver's configuration, with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .45 Long Colt caliber, nickel finish, hardwood grips, and the inscription "Sammy Davis Jr." engraved on the backstrap when purchased by the Colt Firearm Advertising Department and sent with one other revolver of the same type in a shipment to Thomas G. Feiereisen at 654 Cliffwood in Brea, California, on October 1, 1970, under Colt Factory Order #12099. Samuel G. Davis Jr. (1925-1990) was a well regarded African American singer, actor, dancer, comedian, and musician, active from 1928 until his death, known for his hit "The Candy Man" along with touring with other icons including Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Features fixed blade front and top-strap notch rear sights, The Colt address on top of the barrel with the model and caliber designations on the left side, the two-line patent dates followed with a Rampant Colt on the left of the frame, a triangle "VP" factory proof and "V" on the left of the trigger guard, "A" on the right of the trigger guard, and "Sammy Davis Jr. engraved in script on the backstrap, with the work signed "COLT ENGR. R. B. BURT" on the left side of the butt. Matching full serial numbers on the frame and grip straps, a matching partial serial number on the front of the cylinder, and matching "218" assembly numbers on the frame and loading gate. Fitted with a pair of smooth hardwood grips with matching partial serial numbers written on the interior in white. Also includes a printout copy of a page from "The Book of Colt Firearms" signed by noted Colt Single Action Army researcher and author R. L. Wilson, in which he mentions in handwriting the revolver by serial number as belonging to Sammy Davis Jr. along with two other revolvers in this auction, one extensively embellished by Master Engraver Alvin A. White in the previous lot and another that belonged to legendary Hollywood fast draw instructor and Holster maker Arvo Ojala in the following lot.
