An elegant assembled collection of three American sterling silver candlesticks, comprising a matched pair of weighted Gorham examples, pattern no. 928, together with a complementary Towle Sterling candlestick. Displaying restrained Classical styling, each features a baluster-form standard raised on a broad circular base accented with finely molded gadrooned borders, creating a timeless silhouette equally suited to traditional or contemporary interiors. The pair of Gorham candlesticks retain their original impressed marks reading "STERLING," "WEIGHTED," and pattern number "928." Founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1831, Gorham Manufacturing Company became one of America's most celebrated silversmiths, supplying sterling silver to the White House, international exhibitions, and discerning collectors worldwide. Their weighted candlesticks remain highly regarded for their exceptional craftsmanship and enduring design. Accompanying the pair is a Towle Sterling candlestick, marked "Towle Sterling 04 Filled Reinforced with Rod." Established in Massachusetts in 1857, Towle is recognized as one of America's premier sterling silver manufacturers, celebrated for producing refined hollowware and flatware of lasting quality. Together, the three candlesticks present a cohesive decorative grouping ideal for formal dining tables, mantels, or sideboards. Their classic forms and quality American manufacture make them an attractive addition to collections of sterling silver hollowware or traditional decorative arts. An appealing lot combining examples from two of America's most distinguished silversmiths.

  • Literature: Comparable examples appear in mid-century Gorham Manufacturing Company and Towle Silversmiths catalogs illustrating weighted sterling candlesticks produced for the American luxury home furnishings market. See standard references on American sterling silver hollowware by Gorham and Towle.
  • Circa: Mid-20th Century, circa 1940–1965.
  • Condition: Overall good vintage condition. All three candlesticks exhibit light surface scratches, tarnish, and age-related wear consistent with use. The Gorham pair are marked "STERLING WEIGHTED 928." The Towle example is marked "Towle Sterling 04 Filled Reinforced with Rod." Minor wear and small areas of finish loss are present, with no significant dents or structural damage observed in the provided photographs.
