AMERICAN, POSSIBLY TACONIC, PAINTED STAVE-TYPE WOVEN-SPLINT BASKETS, LOT OF TWO, white oak and ash, each of similar form with a double-lashed doubled rim, and a carved bail handle which is bent up around itself and secured with a clenched nail, the body of each is of round tapered form with a kick-up bottom. Each retains an early painted surface. Late 19th/first quarter 20th century. Tallest 14 1/2" HOA (with handle up), 8 3/4" H rim, 12 1/2" D rim.

    The estate collection of Patsy Martin, Chambersburg, PA.

  • Condition:

    Good overall condition, the largest with some scattered minor losses to the body, mostly to the base edge; the smallest with moderate losses to the bottom, each with typical moderate surface wear.
