A matching pair of sterling silver forks in the Louis XV pattern, produced by the Whiting Manufacturing Company and originally patented in 1891. This pattern is noted for its ornate Rococo Revival style, featuring scrolling borders, shell motifs, and a distinct chain-link design within the scrolls along the handles. These examples were retailed by Benedict Bros. of New York. Both forks are finished with different script monograms on the handle terminals, identified as an N and an S. The reverse of each handle is stamped with the retailer mark BENEDICT BROS. The necks are stamped with the Whiting Manufacturing Company hallmarks consisting of a lion passant, a shield containing a W, and a third indistinct mark. The handles are further stamped STERLING and PAT 1895. Total weight 118g.
