RARE CHIPPENDALE TALL-CASE CLOCK BY THOMAS JACKSON
Preston, Connecticut, 18th Century
Vibrantly figured tiger maple case. Bonnet with an elaborately carved crest, spiral-carved finials, an arched dial door and fluted columns. It has been suggested the pattern of the crest is evocative of, and possibly inspired by, whale's tails. Trunk with arched pendulum door that echoes the dial door. Base section with a raised and finely carved scalloped border, scrolled skirt and bracket feet. Silvered brass dial engraved with scrolls. Roman numeral hour ring, Arabic numeral seconds ring and subsidiary calendar dial. Signed "Thos Jackson Preston".

Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Alfond, Weston, Massachusetts.
