WILLIAM THOMSON, NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK SHEAF OF WHEAT COIN SILVER FOUR-PIECE COFFEE / TEA SERVICE, comprising a coffee pot or taller teapot, a teapot, a covered sugar, and a creamer, each having a rounded rectangular well with lobed lower half and a probably later engraved "R" initial to side of shoulder, having one or two scroll handles, raised on a stemmed rectangular foot, featuring die-rolled sheaf of wheat borders around rim and foot, lids and cover having stylized grape or berry finials, pots with insulators on handles. Each underside impressed once or twice with a maker's mark of "W.Thomson". Total weight including non-silver components: 87.43 ozt. William Thomson, New York City, NY (active 1808-1833). Circa 1825. Coffee pot / taller teapot 9 1/4" HOA.
Catalogue Note: The present service has similar sheaf of wheat borders as the water pitcher also by William Thomson in lot 2212 of this auction.

  • Provenance:

    Property from the estate of Malcolm Bradley, Richmond, VA.

  • Condition:

    Mostly in very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a few to some dents mainly being minute / small in size, slight worn spots to die-rolled bands, each having possibly polished-out original engraving where the "R" initial is located; shorter teapot with a moderate dent to base of well at one corner; cover of sugar with denting to flange; creamer with slight bending and a moderate dent to foot causing a slight wobble.
