An early Mexican Chinaco sombrero
Circa 1865
Interior band stamped in gold: Bartley Hats [three crowns]; with multiple further oval dark stamps: [illegible] Almacen
The beige fur felt low rounded crown hat with 5 1/2 inch flat brim, padded fabric double band and metal thread wrapped buttons, the edges with wide silver metal thread ribbon edging and braid accents, with interior leather sweat band and leather laces

  • Dimensions: 5.5" H x 17.5" W x 18.75" H; Inner band: 22.25" C
  • Condition: Overall good condition with dust accumulation, tarnishing, and wear commensurate with age and use. Scattered minor marks and smudges to felt, with a few faint spots and stains. A pea-sized area of insect grazing to crown exterior. Heavier staining to interior brim felt, with creasing, a few scratches, and rubbed wear to leather band.

Shipping. As a courtesy to buyers, Moran provides a list of preferred shippers who are in the business of transporting antiques and works of art. Buyers are responsible for arranging their own shipping estimates and deliveries. Moran, in its sole discretion and as a courtesy to buyers, may arrange to have purchased lots packed, insured, and forwarded by a third-party shipper at the request, expense, and risk of the buyer. In circumstances where Moran arranges for such third-party services, Moran may apply an administration charge of 15% of that service fee. Moran assumes no responsibility for acts or omissions in such packing or shipping by other packers or carriers, even if recommended by Moran. Moran also assumes no responsibility for any damage to picture frames or to the glass therein.
