A charming vintage composition baby doll featuring a sweet, expressive face with molded and painted hair, sleep eyes, an open smiling mouth with visible teeth, and softly blushed cheeks. The doll retains its composition head, arms, and legs with a cloth body and is presented wearing a vintage blue-and-white gingham sailor-style dress with oversized collar, accompanied by hand-knit pink and blue booties. The doll exhibits the appealing character associated with early to mid-20th century American composition dolls. Its molded hair, bright facial expression, and substantial size make it an attractive display piece for collectors of vintage dolls and childhood memorabilia alike. The original finish displays a warm, naturally aged patina, while the period clothing contributes to the doll's authentic presentation. A delightful example of classic American toy manufacturing, equally suited for display in a doll collection or as nostalgic decorative Americana.

  • Literature: Comparable composition dolls were produced by numerous American manufacturers including Effanbee, Horsman, Ideal, and Madame Alexander during the 1930s through the 1950s. Identification of the specific maker generally requires examination of markings located on the back of the head, neck, torso, or body.
  • Circa: Mid-20th century, circa 1930s–1950s.
  • Condition: Overall fair to good vintage condition consistent with age and use. The composition head exhibits age-related crazing and finish wear, particularly across the hair and cheeks, with scattered paint loss and surface soiling. Sleep eyes appear present; operational consistency has not been tested. Hands show paint wear and losses to the fingertips. Cloth body displays expected age-related discoloration. The blue gingham dress and knitted booties are vintage and exhibit wear, creasing, and light staining consistent with age. No attempt has been made to clean or restore the doll. Examination under blacklight is recommended for a complete condition assessment.
