Fine World War II U.S. Winchester Model 97 Takedown Slide Action Trench Shotgun with Bayonet Manufactured in 1942. The Winchester Model 97 trench shotgun gained worldwide fame in the trenches of World War I with its slam fire capability and was extensively utilized in the Pacific Theater during World War II through the Vietnam War, and remained in U.S. Army and Marine Corps inventory until the 1990s. This classic military shotgun is desirable in any condition. Single bead front sight mounted on the six-hole heat shield with bayonet lug adapter marked "PAT.APPL.FOR" on the right side and a sight bead on top. The barrel is marked for cylinder choke, a 2 3/4 inch chamber, and "42" dated on the underside. A flaming bomb proof is stamped on top of the barrel, with "U.S." and a flaming bomb on the left side of the frame. Matching visible serial numbers are marked on the bottom of the receiver and takedown collar. Ribbed forearm and smooth pistol grip stock with a boxed "W.B." cartouche and crossed cannons stamped on the left, sling swivels, checkered buttplate and a 13 3/4 inch length of pull. Includes a Remington manufactured M1917 bayonet with a handmade wooden scabbard and a canvas web sling.

  • Condition: Fine, retains 80% original blue finish, with smooth brown patina on the balance, cycling marks on the magazine tube, a few scratches, and distinct markings in the metal. The wood is very good, with well-defined edges, a spliced repair at the toe of the stock, an absent section at the toe of the buttplate, a minor small hairline at the right rear of the forearm, and a small chip above the crisp stamps. Mechanically excellent. The refinished bayonet is very good with some light pitting.
