JOHN HINCKLEY COURTROOM SKETCHES (28)
JOHN HINCKLEY, JR. (b. 1955) American man who attempted to assassinate U.S. president Ronald Reagan as he left the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., on March 30, 1981. Hinckley wounded Reagan, police officer Thomas Delahanty, Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy and White House Press Secretary James Brady. Brady was left disabled and died 33 years later from his injuries. A fine collection of 28 pastel courtroom sketches, each 16.5 x 13.25 in. and almost all in color, drawn by courtroom artist FRIEDA REITER (1919-1986). Reiter's first assignment was the Carswell Hearing in 1967. Among her other assignments were the Patty Hearst Trial, the Gary Gilmore execution, the Chicago 7 trial, the Watergate trials, as well as Congressional and Supreme Court hearings. She also did a series of sketches during the election of Pope John Paul II, and attended the Tricia Nixon Cox wedding, providing sketches for ABC. Includes 22 full sketches and six partial studies, including two studies and 12 full sketches featuring Hinckley, including an image of him covering his face with only his eyes visible, him looking at documents with two men looking through his jail cell door, a person freeing Hinckley during his attempt to commit suicide, Hinckley sobbing while in his room at St. Elizabeth's Mental Hospital, and showing the jury delivering their verdict. Fine.
