A substantial American yellowware mixing bowl featuring a classic buff-glazed body accented by a broad white horizontal band, embodying the timeless utilitarian pottery produced for domestic kitchens during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Measuring approximately 12 inches in diameter, the bowl displays the graceful, wide-flared form that made these vessels indispensable for baking, bread making, and food preparation. Yellowware became one of America's most recognizable ceramic forms, manufactured by prominent potteries in Ohio, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and East Liverpool during the Victorian era through the early twentieth century. Its durable earthenware body, finished in a warm honey-colored glaze with contrasting white slip banding, offered both practicality and understated visual appeal. Today, these authentic kitchen wares are highly sought after by collectors of American country antiques, primitive décor, and early culinary history. This example retains its rich mustard-toned glaze with attractive speckling throughout and a boldly applied white band encircling the exterior. The generous proportions make it equally suitable as a centerpiece, decorative display, or functional kitchen vessel. Its honest signs of age and use contribute to the authentic character expected of a well-preserved antique yellowware bowl. An appealing example of classic American country pottery, offering enduring decorative charm and historical significance for collectors of yellowware, farmhouse antiques, and early American ceramics.

  • Literature: American yellowware was widely produced from the mid-nineteenth through the early twentieth century by potteries in Ohio, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and other ceramic centers. Characterized by its buff-colored clay body and simple slip decoration, yellowware has become one of the most collectible forms of American utilitarian pottery, prized for its connection to early domestic life and country kitchen traditions.
  • Circa: Circa 1890–1920.
  • Condition: Good antique condition. Displays expected glaze wear, surface marks, scattered firing imperfections, and evidence of long-term use consistent with age. There are a few minor glaze flakes and small rim imperfections, along with a small chip to the underside of the foot rim as shown. No major cracks or structural repairs observed in the photographs. Overall presents well with an attractive aged surface. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the condition report.
