This is a matching pair of sterling silver round bowl spoons, designed for bouillon or cream soup, in the Louis XV pattern by the Whiting Manufacturing Company. The pattern, patented in 1891, is a hallmark of the Rococo Revival style, featuring deeply cast scrollwork and foliate motifs along the handles. A decorative shell motif is located on the reverse side where the handle joins the bowl. Each spoon features a different engraved script monogram on the front of the handle terminal. The reverse of each handle is stamped with the Whiting Manufacturing Company hallmark (a griffin holding a shield), followed by the word STERLING and the patent date PAT. 1891. Total weight 82g.
