Highly Desirable First Year Production Three-Digit Serial Number 330 Antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle in .44-40 W.C.F. Manufactured in 1892, the first year of production, this is a highly desirable example of a very early Winchester Model 1892 rifle with just a three-digit serial number. The Model 1892 was the second of John Moses Browning's lever action rifle designs for the Winchester company, and it was intended to be a modernized, stronger replacement for the prolific but dated Model 1873. Like their predecessors, the Model 1892 paired perfectly with a Colt Single Action Army revolver, making for an excellent duo in the American West. These early production Model 1892s often saw years of use in the harsh environment of the West, well into the 20th century, leaving few surviving examples available to collectors today. This rifle, made so early in the first year of production, stands as a historic example of the rugged and dependable nature of these guns, representing a true American legend. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address and the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model and trademark information, while the early production three-digit serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a German silver No. 21 blade front sight and an elevation adjustable No. 24 notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock, both very nicely figured, with a crescent buttplate.
