Certified by appraiser member of Chinese Painter Calligrapher Association (CPCA), master degree, from Jingdezhen, China Hoifa-Nara, the Step Empress: Empress Ulanara (1681-1731) was a consort of the Yongzheng Emperor (1722-1735). The person depicted in the painting may be Empress Ulanara of the Yongzheng Emperor. She was the original Empress consort of Emperor Yongzheng, a member of the Plain Yellow Banner of the Manchu, and the daughter of Cheng'en Duke Fei Yanggu. Historically, she is known as Empress Xiao Jing Xian. She was officially instated as an Empress by Emperor Yongzheng in 1723, becoming his only personally appointed empress, and she remains the only empress in Qing Dynasty history to have held the position for over 40 years. Name: Ulanara (Posthumous title: 'Empress Xiaojing Gonghe Yishun Zhaohui Zhuang Su An Kang Zuo Tian Yi Sheng Xian') Birth: June 28, 1681 Death: October 29, 1731 Marriage: Married Prince Yin Zhen (later Emperor Yongzheng) in 1691 at the age of 11, and became empress after his ascension to the throne. Historical Status: Original Empress: The only empress officially appointed by Emperor Yongzheng, formally instated in the first year of Yongzheng's reign (1723). Number Offspring: She never bore children, and due to her husband's favoring of Concubine Nian (Dunsu Imperial Noble Consort), their relationship was distant. Funeral Controversy: Upon her death in 1731, Emperor Yongzheng did not personally attend her funeral and only offered sacrifices in the name of the 'Empress Dowager,' sparking later speculation about their marital relationship.
