An impressive and highly decorative French Louis XV-style sideboard, masterfully crafted in richly figured walnut and crowned with its original shaped white marble top. Distinguished by its graceful bombe form, lavish hand-carved floral ornament, and elegant serpentine façade, this substantial buffet exemplifies the opulence and craftsmanship associated with French Rococo revival furniture. The cabinet showcases dramatic bookmatched walnut veneers throughout, framed by deeply carved foliate pilasters terminating in scrolling acanthus ornament. At center, an oval raised panel adorned with carved floral garlands provides a striking focal point, while the flowing serpentine base and molded plinth reinforce the cabinet's sculptural presence. Behind three locking cabinet doors is an expansive shelved interior offering generous concealed storage. A central locking frieze drawer sits beneath the marble top, while each curved end section conceals an ingenious pull-out felt-lined compartment, designed for silver, flatware, or serving implements. These hidden side drawers slide smoothly from each end, a sophisticated feature rarely encountered and highly desirable among collectors of fine traditional cabinetry. The thick molded marble top displays attractive natural veining and provides a durable, elegant serving surface ideally suited for dining rooms, entry halls, or formal entertaining spaces. Retaining its original working key, functioning locks, and impressive architectural form, this cabinet combines exceptional utility with refined European-inspired design. Richly detailed and visually commanding, this marble-top sideboard serves equally well as a dining buffet, credenza, or statement console, embodying the timeless elegance of Louis XV revival furniture while offering abundant practical storage.

  • Literature: Executed in the French Louis XV Revival tradition, drawing inspiration from the asymmetrical Rococo furniture produced during the reign of Louis XV (1715–1774). Characteristic features include bombe forms, serpentine façades, carved floral ornament, marble tops, and richly figured walnut veneers. The concealed side compartments reflect the sophisticated storage innovations found in high-quality European dining furniture.
  • Circa: Mid to Late 20th Century, circa 1965–1985.
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition. Structurally sound and exceptionally well preserved. Original marble top is intact with light age-appropriate wear, minor surface marks, and natural inclusions consistent with stone. Walnut finish retains an attractive warm patina with scattered light scratches, finish wear, and minor cosmetic imperfections from age and use. Original key is present and operates the locks. Cabinet doors, hidden felt-lined side compartments, and center drawer function properly.
