PHILADELPHIA AMERICAN ADVERTISER NEWSPAPER FOLIOS (1823-1826), LOT OF FIVE, folios covering January - June 1823, January - June 1824, July - December 1825, January - December 1826. These cover an array of local, national, and international events - from an ostrich exhibition, sinking of the Steam Boat Tennessee, letters debating the gas lighting of Philadelphia, war between Spain and France, the slave trade, and the deaths of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. 16" x 21" OA folio.

  • Provenance:

From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.

  • Condition:

These are ex-library; exteriors are in good shape with expected wear and discoloration; each had additional marker writing on the covers and spines. Interior newspapers are no longer bound to each other or the spine; newspapers can be removed in individual sheets. The newspapers themselves are in good condition with expected yellowing due to age; there is foxing and discoloration throughout, but they are stable and legible with no folds. There is some expected flaking of the paper, mainly from the edges. Throughout, some of the newspapers have had small tears fixed with cellulose or paper tape. In some volumes, the papers have additional ink/writing marks on them, most notably in the upper right corner is "Secretary of State".
