Outstanding Presentation Cased Colt Third Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver This exceptional cased Colt Third Model Dragoon was manufactured in 1851 and remains in extraordinarily high condition. Many of the Colt Dragoons saw extensive use on the antebellum frontier and through the Civil War leaving very few high condition examples, let alone one this exceptional with a case and accessories. These Third Models were the last of Samuel Colt's massive "horse pistols" which began with the Model 1847 Walker during the Mexican-American War. This revolver was originally produced for a U.S. contract but appears to have been rejected and instead sold on the commercial market. It features a German silver blade front sight, the one-line "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-" barrel address, "MODEL U.S.M.R." and "COLT'S PATENT" on the cylinder along with the Texas Ranger and Comanche battle scene, and "COLT'S/PATENT/U.S." on the left side of the frame. "B" is marked on top at the breech end of the barrel, the leading edge of the cylinder next to the serial number, the left side of the loading lever arm, the front of the trigger guard bow, top of the back strap, and upper left and lower left of the grip. "Q" is also marked on the front of the trigger guard, "F" is marked on its left side, and "T" is marked on the left side. Matching serial numbers are marked on the arbor pin ("746"), loading lever ("0746"), cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and grip. The wedge is numbered "539". It comes in a fitted mahogany case with a martial pattern powder flask with "COLTS PATENT" in a banner at the bottom, a ball compartment, and "35 GRS" marked plunger charger; brass bullet mold with "S" marked on the right and "COLTS/PATENT" marked on the iron sprue cutter, a cartridge pack marked for "REMINGTON'S, COLT'S, AND OTHER/Revolving Holster Pistol", and an Eley Bros. cap tin.
