Mexico, San Luis Potosi., ca. 1900 - 1949 CE. A dramatic Fariseo mask in the tradition of the Mayo and Yaqui peoples of northern Mexico, combining a painted carved face with hide across the crown and large projecting horns. The mask features exaggerated eyes, broad grinning teeth, and bold polychrome decoration in red, black, and gold tones, creating a vivid ceremonial presence. Masks of this type are associated with Holy Week observances in northern Mexican communities, where Fariseo participants appear in distinctive masked costume as part of complex ritual drama. This example shows strong visual impact and was danced in such a ceremony. Size: 22" W x 12" H (55.9 cm x 30.5 cm) Size: 22" W x 12" H (55.9 cm x 30.5 cm)
