WILLIAM THOMSON, NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK SHEAF OF WHEAT COIN SILVER WATER PITCHER, ovoid well with lobed lower half, mostly worn engraved initials, and a die-rolled pictorial band around the shoulder, depicting a fox hunting scene with dogs and hunters on horses in addition to a log cabin with a fence, having a flared rim with curved spout and a sheaf of wheat border, a foliate scroll handle to one side, raised on a stemmed round foot with sheaf of wheat border along top edge and pictorial base edge, featuring sheaves of wheat alternating with other motifs including farm equipment, a barn, a wagon, a windmill, a pair of beehives, and a mill. Underside impressed with a maker's mark of "W.Thomson". Total weight: 32.41 ozt. William Thomson, New York City, NY (active 1808-1833). Circa 1825. 11" HOA.
Catalogue Note: The present pitcher has similar die-rolled sheaf of wheat borders as the four-piece coffee / tea service also by William Thomson in lot 2211 of this auction.

    Property from the estate of Malcolm Bradley, Richmond, VA.

  • Condition:

    Very good visual condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, several scattered dents, some worn spots to die-rolled bands, interior rim with two hairlines including one at terminal of handle that possibly has a repair, a probable hairline to well at lower edge of shoulder.
