Well-Documented NRA Award Winning Cased Miniature Engraved and Silver Mounted Italian Flintlock Fowler This impressive functional miniature is featured on pages 264-266 of "The Art of Miniature Firearms: Centuries of Craftsmanship" where it is noted a "Miniature flintlock fowling gun made in the early nineteenth century. NRA silver medal winner in 1996." It is also noted as "totally functional" and as marked "TORCHIO" on the underside of the barrel. At around 16 inches in overall length it is approximately 1/3 scale. It is early 1800s Italian in style and features a bright two-stage barrel with a smooth bore, blade front sight with flush inlaid "spider" base, decorative chiseled girdles at the transition point, gold lined sunken maker's mark at the breech (appears to be "GF" at center, a small "I" on the left and a "U" on the right), gold band at the breech, gold vent liner, and floral engraved tang. The lock has an interesting frizzen with separating priming cover, a gold lined priming pan, frizzen spring roller, and stepped tail with teat. The mounts are silver and are engraved with scrollwork, foliate motifs, a bow and quiver of arrows on the trigger guard, a fowling scene on the side plate, and a seated dog on the heel. The walnut half-stock has checkering on the forfend and wrist. It comes in an ornate veneer case with purple velvet lining, a paper label signed "Fabbri Gabrielle/fece l' anno 1810", two powder flasks, cleaning and loading tools, spots for a now absent tin and spring vice, and patches. A framed display with photographs of the set is also included.
