    Lot Note:
While American Impressionists favored East Gloucester and Rocky Neck, capturing views from Banner Hill or Gloucester Harbor, MacRae chose instead to depict the lesser-known stretches of beaches and coves along Ipswich Bay. She occasionally painted from well-trodden spots like Rocky Neck and Banner Hill but consistently preferred the overlooked side of the peninsula. Eschewing the popular Annisquam, which had drawn artists from William Picknell to Stephen Parrish and Frank Duveneck, MacRae focused on quieter, underrepresented areas. Her canvases depict coves and harbors from Riverdale to her favored Pigeon Cove, as depicted here, and include scenes of downtown Gloucester and the Western Shore from Stage Fort Park to Half Moon Beach.
