Cased Factory Engraved and Silver Plated Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with Engraved Cylinder and Highly Attractive Raised Relief Carved Mexican Eagle Ivory Grip This stunning revolver was manufactured in 1863 amidst the bloodshed of the American Civil War and the French Second Intervention in Mexico which devolved into another civil war. The grip features a raised relief carved eagle perched on a cactus with a snake trapped in its talons and beak based on the design from the coat of arms of Mexico making the revolver particularly suitable for a leading Mexican officer. The revolver features particularly ornate scroll engraving with finely beaded backgrounds (including on the cylinder instead of a roll-scene), checkerboard and dot accents on the sides of the barrel, entwining line designs, fan motifs, and the dog's head on the hammer. A "P" (plated) is marked by the matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and butt. The cylinder has the matching partial serial number "34813" in a small banner at an angle. Matching partial serial numbers are also on the wedge, loading lever, and arbor pin. The revolver comes in a fitted mahogany case with an Eley Bros. cap tin, pocket flask with the design based on the Great Seal of the U.S. on one side, a brass bullet mold without sprue cutter, L-shaped combination tool, key, and a cartridge box with a few balls and bullets inside.
