Estate collection of approximately 52 antique and vintage books dating from the 18th through the early 20th century, encompassing classic literature, poetry, history, biography, travel, religion, education, and French and Latin language works. Highlights include Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice; Victor Hugo's Notre-Dame de Paris; Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin (London edition); Edward Fitzgerald's The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam; Nathaniel Hawthorne's Twice-Told Tales (2 vols.); Guy de Maupassant short stories; Ovid's Metamorphoses (French edition); Life of Napoleon by Louis Antoine Fauvelet de Bourrienne (3 vols., 1831); Napoleon en Egypte; Contes de La Fontaine (2 vols.); Sterne's A Sentimental Journey; James Bryce's The American Commonwealth (3 vols.); Lord Chesterfield's Letters; Leigh Hunt's The Town (2 vols.); works by Pierre Corneille; Oliver Wendell Holmes poems; Campbell's Poetical Works; Gay's Fables; History of England; Histoire de France; Wonders of Italy; New Readings of Old Authors by Seymour; Dictionnaire volumes; and additional literary, historical, and scholarly works. Also included is a six-volume set of Arnaud Berquin's The Children's Friend (Volumes I-VI), a noted collection of moral and educational tales widely published during the 19th century. Several volumes retain gilt-tooled leather bindings, marbled endpapers, decorative tooling, bookplates, period ownership inscriptions, and other desirable antiquarian features. The lot also includes a pair of leather-bound folding book-form bookends. Approximate measurements range from 3.75" x 2" x 1" to 10" x 7" x 1.5".

Condition: Good to fair overall antique and vintage condition with age-related wear, including foxing, toning, staining, shelf wear, binding wear, and occasional losses, loose hinges, detached boards, and spine deterioration consistent with age and use.
