A handsome antique American yellowware mixing bowl featuring the classic buff-bodied earthenware with a broad white band encircling the exterior. Produced during the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, this utilitarian form has become an enduring icon of American country pottery, prized by collectors for its honest craftsmanship and timeless simplicity. Wheel-thrown and finished with a warm honey-colored glaze over fine buff clay, the bowl exhibits the substantial rolled rim and gently tapered profile associated with quality American yellowware production. The contrasting white band provides a refined decorative accent while reflecting the restrained aesthetic of traditional farmhouse kitchen wares. Originally intended for mixing dough, batter, and other culinary preparations, yellowware bowls were essential household implements throughout the nineteenth century. Today, well-preserved examples are highly sought after for both their decorative appeal and historical significance, making them equally at home in primitive, farmhouse, and country-inspired interiors. Measuring approximately 12 inches in diameter and 6 inches in height, this substantial example displays an attractive warm glaze with natural firing variations and age-acquired character developed through generations of use. A desirable addition to collections of American country pottery, yellowware, or early kitchen antiques.

  • Literature: Yellowware was produced extensively in the United States during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, particularly by potteries in Ohio, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. White-banded mixing bowls such as this remain among the most recognizable and collectible forms of American utilitarian ceramics and are well documented in standard references on American country pottery.
  • Circa: Circa 1880–1910
  • Condition: Good antique condition overall. Displays expected age-related wear including surface scratches, glaze wear, scattered discoloration, and light staining consistent with use. A glaze flake/chip is present on the underside foot rim, as photographed. No major cracks or structural repairs observed from the provided images. Presents well with attractive antique patina.
