American Civil War Ninth Plate Ambrotype Portrait of Union Corporal George Nye of Company I 9th New York Cavalry Regiment in Thermoplastic Gutta Percha Union Case. Commonly Known as “Stoneman’s Cavalry” One of New York’s Most Active and Celebrated Cavalry Regiments of the American Civil War. Organized at Westfield and Albany New York in 1861 the Regiment Served with Distinction in the Army of the Potomac Participating in Major Campaigns Including Second Bull Run Brandy Station Gettysburg the Wilderness Shenandoah Valley Operations and the Appomattox Campaign. The Portrait Depicts Corporal Nye Seated Wearing a Dark Blue Single Breasted Union Frock Coat with Two Chevrons Denoting Rank of Corporal a Non Commissioned Officer of the Union Army. The Image Retains Hand Gilded Buttons Belt Buckle and Period Applied Rosy Tinted Cheeks with Painted Tree Backdrop Visible in the Background.
