ASSORTED REVOLUTIONARY WAR AND EARLY AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS (1767-1799), LOT OF FIVE, (1) Boston Gazette Supplement, April, 20, 1767, (2) The Providence Gazette and County Journal, April 12, 1783, (3) National Gazette, November 21, 1792, (4) The Philadelphia Gazette and Universal Daily Advertiser, March 11, 1796, (5) J. Russell's Gazette, June 27, 1799. Papers cover articles about Britain sending more troops to America, the House of Commons working on more taxes for the colonies (aka "Townshend Acts), peace treaty with Britain, mention of the Asgill Affair, discussion of the ongoing French Revolution, abolition of the French monarchy, death of George Mason, reflections and reports from Congress about Jay's Treaty, and death of Patrick Henry. Mylar envelopes: 10" x 15 1/2" to 18 1/2" x 24 1/2" OA.

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.

  • Condition:

    Overall condition is good (1) in two separate sheets, expected discoloration with age, small stain on back page, fold marks on the front page, some loss around the edges, two holds in the front page, some tears on the outer edge have been covered with a paper tape, a name is written at top in pencil, along with other names inscribed in pen under some of the advertisements. (2) each in a separate mylar envelope, some spots of staining on both sheets, slight fixing throughout, front page has some losses around edge and bottom right corner, some areas have been stabilized with paper tape. Back page similar with a small triangular hole at center and areas of tape, name Benj. Greene is written at top of both pages. (3) minimal discoloration with some spotting around center folds, small holes down edge of both sides, probably bound at one time. (4) front and back attached, with center fold, there is a large stain at top back page with spots of foxing and discoloration, two small holes on front page, and a small loss at top of back page. (5) areas of staining and discoloration, some holes in front and back pages.
