An exceptionally decorative late Victorian centerpiece featuring an elaborate silverplate stand fitted with its original cranberry art glass bowl, richly hand-enameled with flowering botanical decoration and finished with a delicately scalloped gilt-highlighted rim. The architectural silverplate frame is beautifully executed in the Aesthetic Movement taste, with pierced foliate galleries, classical ornament, and elegantly curved supports terminating in finely modeled perched songbirds. The sculptural avian finials lend the piece a remarkable sense of movement while framing the vibrant cranberry glass insert below. Raised on four richly cast feet with floral relief decoration, the stand displays a high level of craftsmanship characteristic of quality European and American silverplate manufacturers of the late nineteenth century. The removable cranberry glass bowl is equally impressive, featuring hand-painted floral sprays including lily-of-the-valley, leaves, berries, and blossoms rendered in vibrant enamel colors against the luminous ruby-pink ground. The gilded scalloped rim further enhances the luxurious presentation. Centerpieces of this quality were intended as focal points for formal dining tables or grand parlors, often displaying flowers, fruit, floating candles, or seasonal arrangements. Today they remain highly sought after by collectors of Victorian decorative arts for their dramatic presentation and exceptional combination of silverplate artistry and hand-decorated art glass. A striking and highly displayable centerpiece combining sculptural elegance with vivid color, equally suited to traditional, eclectic, or period interiors.

  • Literature: The combination of silverplate figural stands with richly colored cranberry art glass bowls became especially fashionable during the late Victorian period. Influenced by the Aesthetic Movement and naturalistic design, manufacturers in England, Continental Europe, and the United States produced elaborate table centerpieces featuring birds, botanical ornament, and hand-enameled art glass intended for formal dining and parlor display.
  • Circa: Late 19th Century, circa 1885–1900.
  • Condition: Very good antique condition. The silverplate stand is structurally sound with light age-related surface wear, minor rubbing, and scattered scratches consistent with careful use. The cranberry art glass bowl is removable and displays beautifully, retaining vibrant enamel decoration and gilt accents. No obvious cracks or major damage are visible in the photographs. Examination under direct light is recommended for complete assessment.
