This Victorian sterling silver fish server was produced by the Whiting Manufacturing Company. The piece features a broad, curved blade with a decoratively scalloped and pierced upper edge incorporating C-scrolls and floral elements. The heavy handle is elaborately decorated in the Rococo Revival style, featuring deep chasing and embossing of shell motifs, acanthus leaves, and scrolling foliage. The reverse of the handle terminal is engraved with an ornate script monogram W. On the reverse of the neck, the piece bears the maker hallmark for Whiting Manufacturing Company, depicting an eagle with outstretched wings perched on a scroll. This is accompanied by the purity mark STERLING and the patent date mark PAT. 1891.
