JUDITH ALTRUDA SILVER RING & CUFF:
including a reticulated silver ring with a bronze Amazon coin bezel set in 18k yellow gold and accented with two 18k yellow gold rivets; and a copper cuff bracelet lined with reticulated silver and bezel set with a Sicily Griffin horse coin. The ring and cuff together weigh 92.8 grams. The ring is a size 6-3/4 and the interior of the cuff measures 5-1/2 inch long with a 1 inch gap.

  • Provenance: Judith Altruda, a jewelry artist based in Tokeland, Washington, creates designs using hand-fabricated metalworking methods that date back thousands of years. Her statement pieces incorporate silver, copper, bronze, gold, sea glass, gemstones, and ancient coins. Drawing on mythology, her work reflects themes of gods, goddesses, nymphs, and other figures from ancient stories, along with natural inspirations like river mist, windswept beaches, and ocean-worn treasures gathered near her home and during her travels.

Altruda often starts her creative process with a visit to the beach, especially a small island known as Empire Spit in Tokeland. "You have to go at low tide to cross the channel," she explains. There, she explores the landscape, taking in its beauty while searching for small black pebbles. "I haven't found another place where stones stay black after they dry," she notes. These distinctive pebbles frequently become part of her handcrafted bracelets, rings, and earrings, each piece shaped by the environment where the materials were discovered.

Every creation is one of a kind, reflecting the vision of an artist deeply influenced by the Pacific Coast and the Columbia River. The textures of weathered driftwood, aged pilings, and the repeating patterns formed by wind and water all inform her work. As a result, elements like the edges of rings or bracelets may appear organic and uneven, echoing the flowing, irregular lines found in nature.
