Special Order E. Remington & Sons No. 1 1/2 Rolling Block Sporting Rifle with Extra Length 36 Inch Barrel Manufactured c. 1888 to 1897, this is an solid example of the desirable Remington No. 1 1/2 Rolling Block Sporting rifle. These rifles were produced in smaller calibers and smaller numbers that the more prolific No. 1 Sporting rifle, with only a few thousand of the No. 1 1/2 being produced according to Norm Flayderman, making them significantly more rare on today's collectors market. The top barrel flat is marked with the one-line E. Remington & Sons address, while the left of the receiver is marked with the six-line patent dates ending in 1873. The bottom of the barrel is marked "32" just in front of the forearm and "J.C.G." and "S.T." under the forearm. The matching serial number is on the lower tang, bottom of the barrel, rear face of the forearm, front face of the wrist of the stock, and inside the buttplate. The assembly number "1202" is marked on the left sides of the upper and lower tang. It is fitted with a globe front sight, an elevation adjustable notch rear sight, and a peep sight mounted on the upper tang. It is mounted with a smooth Schnabel tip forearm with an iron cap and a straight grip stock with a gently curved buttplate.

  • Condition: Fine, retains 30% of the original blue finish and 40% of the original case colors on the frame with the balance a mixed grey and brown patina and some scattered patches of light pitting. The revarnished wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
