This lot consists of a collection of 30 educational glass lantern slides produced by the C. H. Stoelting Co. of Chicago, Illinois. These slides were manufactured for use in scientific and technical instruction within academic environments during the early to mid-20th century. Each slide is constructed of glass panes secured with black tape-style framing. A printed silver-tone heading at the top of each slide identifies the maker as C. H. STOELTING CO. The bottom of each slide features a printed paper label containing the catalog number, specific title, and descriptive technical information. These labels also include orientation indicators marked UP and IN. The subject matter encompasses a wide array of scientific disciplines. Physics and mechanics are represented by slides titled Standards of Mass, Transporting and Handling of Materials, Capillarity, Equilibrium of Boats, Barometer and Elevation, Boyle's Law Apparatus, and Plane Mirrors. Electrical and telecommunications topics include Electric Machines (Toepler-Holtz and Wimshurst), Galvani's Experiment, Primary (Galvanic) Cells, Development of Electric Motor, Alternators, Water-Wheel Driven Alternators, Wireless Telegraphy, and Wireless Telephony Wave Forms. Additional slides cover acoustics and industrial technology such as the Edison Phonograph, How Commercial Phonograph Record Is Made, Drummer's Instruments, Electro Plating, and Polishing Diamonds. Anatomical and optical slides titled Human Ear and Astigmatism of Eye are also present, along with a slide depicting Types of Locomotives. Several labels feature handwritten inventory numbers in pencil. 3.25 x 4 inches per slide.
