Highly Desirable Browning Bros. Ogden, Utah, Retailer Marked Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle Manufactured in 1907, this is a highly attractive example of the iconic Winchester Model 1894 rifle bearing the highly desirable Browning Bros., Ogden, Utah, retailer marking. In around 1878, John Moses Browning and his brothers took over their father's gun shop in Ogden, establishing the Browning Bros. firm. John Browning was a legendary American firearms designer that made many of Winchester's most popular designs, including the Model 1886, Model 1892, and Model 1894 like this rifle. It is known that part of Browning's agreements with Winchester to let them produce his designs was them providing him with stock for his family's shop, with this rifle being one of those provided. These Browning Bros. marked Winchesters have the added desirability of being associated with the legendary John Browning, but also as being shipped to and used in the American West, much of which remained relatively untamed well into the 20th century. There are Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The top barrel flat is marked with the standard two-line address, the "BROWNING BROS.CO.OGDEN.U" marking, and the caliber marking at the breech. The nickel steel marking is on the upper left flat. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model and trademark information, while the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a No. 21 German silver blade front sight, a period fitted blank in the rear sight dovetail with original factory sight index marks visible, and a Marble peep sight mounted on the upper tang. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
