This six-piece porcelain dinner service was manufactured by Charles Field Haviland in Limoges, France. The set is decorated with a wide cobalt blue border featuring a heavy etched and encrusted gold pattern of foliate scrolls and floral arabesques. The interiors and centers are finished in a bright white glaze. According to the marks on the underside, the gold decoration utilizes the incrustation, double dorure (double gilding), and polie a l'agate (agate burnished) techniques. This set was produced for the retailer Maison de France. The collection includes a dinner plate, salad plate, bread and butter plate, rimmed soup bowl, teacup, and saucer. The underside of each piece displays a circular maker mark for CH. FIELD HAVILAND LIMOGES along with technical marks for the gilding process and the retailer designation. Weight includes all items. Measurement is for largest item.
