The papers cover General La Fayette's U.S. tour, a detailed account of Congress and the Virginia legislature, a discussion of American transportation infrastructure, debates on states' rights, the Missouri question, the Indian Removal Act, Charles Dickens' visit to Richmond, the Texas Revolution, the assassination attempt on Andrew Jackson, and the Great Fire of New York. 17 1/2" x 22" to 18 1/4" x 25 3/4" OA.

  • Provenance:

From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.

  • Condition:

These are ex-library; in fair to good overall condition. The exteriors are in fair to good condition with expected wear. 1824 and 1825 have more wear and flaking of the leather. The 1824 binding at the spine is no longer attached to the papers, but the papers are still bound to each other; all others have papers still bound to the spine. 1830 has a large stain that permeates the top half of the paper throughout; some pages have losses, but they are stabilized from previous conservation work. 1835 is in poor condition from Feb to March, with the pages split horizontally and the bottom and top are both shedding; there are some random torn pages through the rest of the year.
