367TH INFANTRY BLACK SOLDIER'S DISCHARGE AND PHOTOGRAPH
Partly-printed discharge of black Sgt. Harry N. Tracy, Co. H., 367th Infantry Regt., 2pp. 4to., originally discharged Mar. 15, 1919, this later issuer dated May 11, 1931. A little soiled with a small burned hole at top, else very good. Accompanied by a worn postcard photograph of Tracy in uniform during or just after the war years. Also present is a 1934 retained copy of a letter sent by Tracy to the Adjutant General of the U.S. asking for assistance as while he served in the 92nd Division in France, he had entrusted his captain, one Genoa Washington, with $700 which he now sought to recover (against all odds!). Three pieces. The 367th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the 'Buffaloes' was an African American combat unit formed in 1917 at Camp Upton, New York, as part of the 92nd Infantry Division during World War I. Renowned for valor, its First Battalion was awarded the French Croix de Guerre. The regiment served in France in 1918, fighting in the Meuse-Argonne sector
