Olmec regions, North central Guerrero, middle Preclassic, ca. 550 BCE. Middle Preclassic, ca. 550 BCE. CIRAM dating: 2450 + or - 170 years old.. Fine natural buff color pottery standing figure depicted with a fancy hairdo, parted in the middle and wearing a headband. Beautifully sculpted expressive facial features, having large front teeth. Very naturalistic musculature, hands held to his hip and thigh, and legs slightly bent at the knees. Wearing a belted loincloth, necklace and boots. Wearing a right forearm striking pad, probably for use in the ball game. Boots highlighted with red-orange pigment. Custom metal base. A beautiful example. Custom metal base. Size: 8.88”H x 3.25”W (22.6 x 8.3cm).

Provenance: With CIRAM TL certificate 0618-OA-238R-4. Private Southwest collection. Ex. Federico Bermudez collection, acquired over 50 years ago.
