Lot of Luftwaffe campaign Shields to include 1) LUFTWAFFE KRIM CAMPAIGN SHIELD. The award is in the form of a die stamped sheet metal construction, shield with a bronze wash featuring a large embossed national eagle with out-stretched wings, clutching a wreathed, canted, swastika in it’s talons, to the top center, situated above an embossed, stylized, map of the Crimean peninsula with the embossed dates, "1941-1942", and the impressed location, "Krim". The recessed "water" surrounding the peninsula has a subtly pebbled, background field. The edge of the shield has a fine, embossed, line and a stepped down outer edge.. The shield is mounted on a cut-out, rounded bottom, flat topped, shield shaped, Luftwaffe grey wool base with an alloy backing plate. The Krim shield was instituted on July 25TH 1942, as the third official campaign shield for award to all Wehrmacht, (Armed Forces), personnel who had been engaged in combat, were wounded or served three months in the campaign between September 21ST 1941 and July 21ST 1942. The shields were bestowed to eligible personnel by the area commander Generalfeldmarschall Erich von Manstein and were to be worn on the upper left sleeve of the uniform. The color of the backing material was to match that of the uniform it was to be worn on. The shields were only issued in bronze although Hitler awarded Generalfeldmarschall von Manstein with a gilt version of the shield and another gilt shield was awarded to Romanian Marshal Ion Victor Antonescu. 2) LUFTWAFFE KUBAN CAMPAIGN SHIELD. Die stamped, magnetic construction shield with a bronze wash featuring an embossed, stylized, national eagle with out-stretched wings, clutching a wreathed, canted, swastika in its talons, to the top center, with the swastika flanked by the embossed date, "1943". The eagle sits atop a horizontal bar with the embossed script, "Kuban". The bottom portion of the shield features an embossed serrated defensive line with the impressed, named, locations of the major engagements, "Lagunen, Krymskaya", and "Nuwara-sisk". Prongs and plate all complete. 3) WWII NAZI GERMAN LUFTWAFFE NARVIK SHIELD WW2. Die stamped, zinc construction with a gilt wash, shield featuring an embossed, stylized, national eagle with down-swept wings, clutching a wreathed, static swastika in its talons, to the top center, positioned above the embossed script, "Narvik 1940", an edelweiss flower and a crossed propeller and anchor. The edelweiss, propeller and anchor represent the Heer Gebirgsjäger, (Army Mountain troops), the Kriegsmarine and the Luftwaffe respectively, that participated in the victory at Narvik. All original prongs are intact still retaining the magnetic plate and blue/gray wool with gray paper backing. The Narvik Campaign shield was the first of a series of campaign shields to be introduced and was established by Adolf Hitler on August 19TH 1940 for award to all Wehrmacht, (Armed Forces), personnel who participated in the battle of Narvik Norway between April 9TH and June 9TH 1940. Of Note: Although the shield was officially introduced on August 19TH 1940 it wasn’t until September 12TH 1940 that the OKM, Oberkommando des Marine, (Navy High Command), published the issuing order, followed by the Luftwaffe, (Air-Force), the next day. The Kriegsmarine version of the shield was gilt washed while those awarded to Heer, (Army), and Luftwaffe personnel were silver washed. The shields were bestowed by Generalleutnant Eduard Dietl the commander of Army Group Narvik and it is alleged that a total of only 8,577 shields were awarded to all branches of service personnel. The shields were to be worn on the upper left sleeve of the uniform. The color of the backing material was to match that of the uniform it was to be worn on.
