PHILADELPHIA AMERICAN ADVERTISER NEWSPAPER FOLIOS COVERING THE WAR OF 1812, LOT OF EIGHT, folios covering the years 1812, 1813, 1814, and 1815, each year is divided into two folios, January to June and July to December. These papers cover the time around the War of 1812, with notable events like the assassination of British Prime Minister Spencer Perceval, declaration of war between the U.S. and the U.K., defense of Fort Erie, Invasion of Canada, the siege of Washington, letters about the destruction and burning of the capital, Treaty of Ghent, and Andrew Jackson defeating the British at Battle of New Orleans. 13" x 20 3/4" newspaper, 14" x 21" OA folio.

  • Provenance:

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.

  • Condition:

    These are ex-library; exteriors are in good shape with expected wear and discoloration; each has additional marker writings on covers and spines. Interior newspapers are no longer bound to each other or the spine; newspapers can be removed in individual sheets. The newspapers themselves are in good condition with expected yellowing due to age; there is foxing and discoloration throughout, but they are stable and legible with no folds. There is some expected flaking of the paper, mainly from the edges. Throughout, some of the newspapers have had small tears fixed with cellulose and paper tape. Some volumes have additional ink writing/marks on them.
