A collection of three original 19th-century legal and land-related documents including a manuscript will, a quitclaim deed, and a federal land grant. The first document is a handwritten Last Will and Testament of William Hebdon, a tailor residing at number 2 Church Street, Minories, in the liberty of the Tower of London. The text references an indenture dated July 20, 1826. The document is signed William Hebdon and witnessed by Richard Davis. It features a black wax seal at the upper left corner and describes the distribution of household goods and annuities to his wife, Ann Hebdon, and daughter, Hannah Maria Potts. The second document is a pre-printed quitclaim deed form with manuscript entries, dated August 17, 1846. The instrument records the transfer of forty acres of land in Portage Township, Ottawa County, Ohio, from Justus Platt and Alburnydia Platt of Fairfield County, Connecticut, to their daughter Anna Noyes for the consideration of four hundred dollars. It is signed by both Justus and Alburnydia Platt and notarized by a Justice of the Peace. A blue hand-stamp reads State Conn. 1846. The third document is a United States Homestead Certificate, number 3099, Application 8238, issued to Mary A. Mitchell for 160 acres of land in Boonville, Missouri. Dated January 30, 1880, the grant bears the secretarial signature of President Rutherford B. Hayes and is countersigned by S.W. Clark, Recorder of the General Land Office. The document includes a red embossed paper seal at the lower left and a vignette illustration of a pioneer family at the upper left. All three documents are housed in individual protective plastic sleeves.
