This collection consists of five color lithograph citrus crate labels produced for Southern California growers, dating to approximately 1929 and the early 20th century. These labels were originally designed for use on the ends of wooden fruit crates. The assortment includes designs from various packing houses in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties. The first label is for Gladiola Brand Oranges, featuring two stalks of pink gladiolus flowers on a metallic gold-toned background. It was produced for the Covina Orange Growers Association in Covina, California. The second label is for Corona Lily Brand, featuring a large orange spotted tiger lily against a dark field. It was grown and packed by Call Ranch in Corona, Riverside County. The third label is for Velvet Brand Valencias, dated 1929. It features a deep blue drapery background and an illustration of an orange in a Sunkist tissue wrap. It was produced for Irvine Valencia Growers in Irvine, California, and bears the lithographer mark for Schmidt Litho. Co. L.A. in the lower right corner. The fourth label is for Linen Brand Valencias, also dated 1929. The design features a diagonal cream-colored band with geometric red and green borders and a Sunkist-wrapped orange. It was produced for Irvine Valencia Growers in Irvine, California, and bears the Schmidt Litho. Co. L.A. lithographer mark. The fifth label is for Homer Brand, depicting a blue homing pigeon in flight against a yellow sun and green landscape. It includes Sunkist branding and was produced for the Orange Heights Orange Association in Corona, California. Dimensions: Approximately 11 x 11 inches each.
