Three Chinese Agate Snuff Bottles, 18th to 19th/20th Century
清 瑪瑙鼻烟壺三支
-The first, 19th Century, agate of rounded-rectangular form
carved to resemble a gathered silk purse, the shoulders sloping to a flattened-oval neck, the lip flat, the flat foot with a small oval dimple, the undecorated translucent stone nicely hollowed, the stopper conforming.
-The second, 19th/20th Century, agate of bulbous round-rectangular form, the shoulders sloping to a cylindrical neck, the lip concave, the base surrounded by a shallow neatly carved protruding oval footrim, the gray-brown stone finely carved on one main side through dark brown, light brown and white skins to depict a flowering lotus plant with two frogs resting on one of the leaves, the remainder of the bottle undecorated, well-hollowed.
-The third, circa 1720-1780, possibly Imperial, attributed to the Palace Workshops, Beijing, agate of miniature octagonal form, with a short neck, wide mouth, flat lip and foot, the main sides with conforming raised slightly convex panels, the narrow sides with undecorated facets, the stone with scattered irregular black and brown inclusions. Well hollowed.
Largest Height without stopper 2 5/16 in., 5.8 cm.
