  • Notes:
Oswaldo Guayasamín was an influential Ecuadorian painter whose artistic practice focused on expressing human suffering, social injustice, and the dignity of marginalized people across Latin America. Born the eldest of ten children to a poor family in Quito, Guayasamín was interested in art from a young age and enrolled in the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes against his father's wishes. Later he also studied under José Clemente Orozco.

Through his career Guayasamín developed a distinctive expressionist style characterized by elongated forms, dramatic hands, and intense emotional imagery painted in bold color and expressive brushwork. The artist's themes often addressed poverty, oppression, war, and human rights abuses and drew inspiration from Indigenous cultures, political struggles, and personal experiences.
  • Condition: Overall good appearance. Two pinhead-sized abrasions along the very outer center of the upper edge, not affecting the figure's head. As mentioned, the sheet is laid to board.

    Framed under glass: 20" H x 26" W x 3" D
